Background of the Study
Radio has long been considered a key tool for promoting agricultural development, particularly in rural areas where access to other forms of media may be limited. In Zaria LGA, Kaduna State, radio plays a pivotal role in disseminating agricultural information to farmers, providing them with the knowledge needed to improve productivity, adopt modern farming techniques, and access government programs. Radio broadcasts focused on agricultural development cover topics such as crop cultivation, livestock management, pest control, and climate-smart agriculture. This study explores the role of radio in promoting agricultural development in Zaria, examining how radio programs influence the farming community's adoption of new technologies and practices.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Agriculture is the backbone of the economy in Zaria LGA, yet many farmers continue to rely on traditional practices that may not maximize their yields. While radio has proven effective in transmitting agricultural information, its impact on the actual adoption of improved farming practices and technologies is not well understood. There is a need to assess the extent to which agricultural radio programs contribute to changing farming behaviors and promoting sustainable agricultural practices in Zaria.
